Lisa Carpenter brings an eclectic background to the Board of Commissioners. She has decades of business experience specializing in sales, client development, leadership and training for large and small corporations. In addition, she’s owned and operated successful businesses in cosmetics and landscaping while homeschooling her two sons through high school graduation.
Commissioner Carpenter is originally from California, where she earned her BA in Economics from University of California at San Diego and met her husband, Al, of 32 years. Through his 20-year naval career, they lived in various coastal regions around the country including Annapolis, Virginia Beach and Biloxi before moving to Jacksonville in 2011. Together, they have four sons, three of whom live in Onslow County with their wives and families.
Commissioner Carpenter is a serious advocate for community involvement. Her first volunteer position was as Ombudsman for SEAL Team V, and through the years has worked in children’s ministries, Christian school parent organizations, as well as alongside her husband in leadership for a local Boy Scout Troop during the time their sons worked up the ranks to Eagle Scouts. Most recently, she served two years as president of a local women’s political organization and continues to serve both locally and at the district and state levels.
Commissioner Carpenter currently serves on the Airport Advisory Commission and the Eastern Carolina Workforce Development Board.
