The Onslow County Board of Commissioners adopted a $284 million budget at their June 6, 2022 Regular Meeting. The Board decreased the property tax rate by 5¢ to 65.5¢ per $100 valuation in the new fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2022.
The newly adopted budget dedicates 3¢ of property tax revenue to Fire Service funding. Onslow County provides funding for 20 fire departments. The newly established Fire Fund will help provide training, equipment, apparatus, and facilities necessary to save lives and keep homeowners insurance costs low.
The budget also sets aside 3¢ of property tax revenue for future K-12 school capital needs.
In response to the unprecedented economic challenges and changes in the labor market, the Board of Commissioners also passed a 10% salary adjustment for all County employees and adjusted the pay scale so the lowest wage will be $15 an hour.
