[ARCHIVED] Winter Weather Information

Winter Weather Info

Update: Saturday, January 22, 2022

Onslow Solid Waste, the landfill, and waste collection convenience sites will be closed Saturday, January 22, 2022 due to inclement weather.  The landfill and convenience sites will reopen on Monday for normal business hours, weather permitting.

Onslow County Government offices will be closed Friday due to the impending weather. Forecast conditions are not favorable for safe travel until Sunday.

Onslow County urges everyone to prepare now for a potential power loss due to icing conditions. If you have special needs that require power, please ensure you have a personal backup plan.

Special Units

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and Onslow Emergency Services will continue to provide services during the event. The Onslow County Library, Museum, Animal Services and Register of Deeds will be closed also. Each will resume a normal schedule Monday, January 24, 2022.

For Onslow Solid Waste, the landfill and waste collection convenience sites will be closed Saturday.

Ellis Airport Impact

The Onslow County Airport reports that air travel along all of North Carolina’s east coast is anticipated to be disrupted beginning Friday and into the weekend, so passengers should contact their airlines to adjust travel plans.

Ellis Airport crews will remain onsite during the storm to plow snow and deice the runway as required.  The Airport will remain open while it is safe for aircraft and emergency equipment to operate.

Travelers with flights from now through the weekend, should verify your flight’s status on your airline’s website (aa.com or Delta.com) before traveling to the Airport.

County Operations and Updates

A limited staff activation of the County’s Emergency Operations Center will occur during the event and the Onslow Citizens Phone Bank will also be operating. They can be reached at 910 989-5027.

Follow the Airport and County’s social media for general updates.
