Migrant Housing

Health Inspections

Each year, the North Carolina Department of Labor's Migrant Housing Bureau requires that certain inspections be done on migrant labor camps / houses prior to occupancy. Environmental Health Specialist may conduct two of these inspections.

Water Sampling

If a potable water well exists at the migrant camp/house, an Environmental Health Specialist will collect a water sample for bacteriological testing. If an on-site wastewater treatment and disposal (septic) system is used at the migrant camp / house, a visual inspection of the system is made to see if it appears to be in good working order. A report on the water quality and wastewater system goes to the Department of Labor for their files.
