Fee Schedule

Effective March 1, 2015, we will no longer accept any check that has an excess amount. Copy account funds must be presented as a separate transaction and not associated with the recording of documents.

Effective August 1, 2016, credit cards will be accepted for all payments of $5 or more, but there will be a 3% processing fee added to the total.

Mailing

If you are mailing a recording into our office, please provide a self addressed stamped envelope so that we can return it back to you.

Payment

When a document is presented for registration that consists of multiple instruments, the fee will be $10 for each additional instrument. A document consists of multiple instruments when it contains two or more instruments with different legal consequences or intent, each of which is separately executed and acknowledged and could be recorded alone.

Please note: We are not able to accept checks for requests of vital records - cash or money order only.

Excise Tax

All documents requiring excise tax must state the amount of the excise tax on the first page of the document. This includes documents which have zero excise tax due.

If the excise tax is exempt by law, the reason for the exemption must be stated on the first page of the document.

The tax rate for excise tax is $1 on each $500 or fractional part thereof of the consideration or value of the interest conveyed. (NCGS §105-228.30)
