All commercial and multi-family residential properties are required to be inspected per the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code. These inspections are to be conducted at a minimum according to the schedule below. This does not prevent the authority having jurisdiction from conducting more frequent inspections than the schedule below.
Annual Required Inspections
- Hazardous
- Institutional (i.e. nursing homes, assisted living facilities)
- Assembly 100 occupants and above (i.e. restaurants, clubs, places of entertainment)
- Multi-family residential (except one- and two-family homes)
- Hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns and bed and breakfast homes
- High-Rise Buildings
Required Two-Year Inspections
- Industrial Facilities
- Educational Facilities (except public schools)
Required Three-Year Inspections
- Business
- Mercantile
- Storage
- Churches and Synagogues
- Assembly under 100 occupants
- Miscellaneous group U occupancies

- Childcare facilities (in home and commercial property)

- Home based business
- Change of use or occupant of a commercial property
