New River Paddle Trail

Dedicated in May 2003, the New River Paddle Trail begins at the Cow Horn Creek in the Richlands/Steed Park.  This 16.85 mile trail travels down the New River stopping at the McAllister Landing, the Burton Industrial Park Landing, and finally the New River Waterfront Park in Jacksonville.  Skill Level/Difficulty: 2, 3.  Trip Highlights include; salt-water marshes, estuary/sound, swamp river, black water, beaver dams, tree canopies, limestone formations, alligators, bird sightings, and wildlife sightings.

White Oak River Paddle Trail

Dedicated in June 2009, the White Oak River Paddle Trail begins at the White Oak River Campground located on Hwy. 17 in the Begrade community just before Maysville.  This 17.22 mile trail travels down the White Oak River stopping at Dixon Field Landing, Haywood Landing and Long Point Landing - all in the Croatan National Forest - and ending at Boondocks Landing in Stella.  Trip Highlights include; salt-water marshes, estuary/sound, swamp river, black water, beaver dams, tree canopies, rapids, limestone formations, alligators, bird sightings, and wildlife sightings.
