Halloween Activities Planned in Onslow County

 (Onslow County)   Do you have plans for Halloween?  The Cultural Services Department of Onslow County Government is celebrating Halloween with several activities for all the family.

        A Night at the Museum, poses the question – What happens at night when the Onslow County Museum closes and the exhibits come to life….?  Find out Saturday, October 24, 2009, 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.  Admission is $3.00 per person; under 3 is free.  Youth 12 and under are welcome to wear Halloween costumes for a little early Trick or Treating.  Ghoulish Guided Tours will begin every half hour.  Reservations are recommended for large groups as space is limited to 30 per tour.  The Museum is located at 301 S. Wilmington Street in Richlands.  For more information call 324-5008.

        The Parks and Recreation Department will offer 3 events beginning with the popular Pumpkin Painting Party, followed by Halloween Costume Contest & Matinee Movie, and Spook-Tacular Fun!!
        
The Pumpkin Painting Party will be held on Monday, October 26 at the Blue Creek Elementary School on Hwy 53 in the Southwest area of Jacksonville.  Beginning at 5:30 p.m., children 12 and under may choose a pumpkin and start painting.  Prizes will be awarded for the best painted pumpkins.  Although a quantity of pumpkins will be provided, participants may want to bring their own pumpkin as supplies are limited.
        
On Saturday, October 31, the Halloween Costume Contest and Matinee Movie event will be held at the Carmike Cinema 16 behind the Jacksonville Mall.  The Costume Contest will be held at 9:00 a.m. and prizes will be awarded for best costumes in 3 age categories.  Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Immediately following the costume contest, a G-rated movie will be shown.  Entrance to the event is free with the donation of 3 canned food items per person, which will be donated to the Christmas Cheer program.
        
Spook-Tacular Fun!! will be held at the Onslow Pines Park on the evenings of Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31.  Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the event will include Pumpkin Junction for the younger kids featuring Moonwalks, Games, and a Train Ride; Food/Candy; Frightfully Fun Games; and, a Costume Contest on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Also planned is a Haunted Trail hayride - $5 for adults and $3 for children - the proceeds of which will benefit the Onslow Pines Park Concession Stand Fund.  Activities will end at 10:30 p.m. on both nights.  For more information on Parks and Recreation events, call 347-5332.
