Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program:

When a child under the age of 6 years is determined to have a persistent or elevated blood-lead level by clinical tests, an environmental investigation of the child’s surroundings is conducted to determine the source(s) of the lead exposure. Normally, a team consisting of a Public Health Nurse, an Environmental Health Specialist, and a Regional Lead Specialist will visit the child’s home, child care facility, and other locations that the child frequently visits. It is the property owner’s responsibility to develop and implement an approved abatement plan to prevent further exposure of the child to lead hazards.
