1. How do I get on the schedule to get mosquito spraying?

You can call our office at 910-455-0181 or fill out the Mosquito Control Request Form (PDF).

2. How can I determine if the County conducts spray activities in my area?

We conduct our activities in the unincorporated areas of Onslow County, with the exception of the Town of Swansboro. If you reside within the city limits of Jacksonville, Richlands, Holly Ridge or North Topsail Beach, please contact them directly for assistance.

3. Is the pesticide you use harmful to outside pets or vegetation?

No, our pesticide is not harmful to vegetation or outside pets.

4. How long will the spray last?

The pesticide will only reach and kill adult flying mosquitoes. The residual effect is basically determined by the amount of breeding grounds in your area, along with the amount of rainfall.

5. Is there a fee for the spraying?

No, there is no fee charged for this service.

6. I found a dead bird on my property. Do I need to have it tested for any disease?

No. The State Public Health Pest Management Lab no longer tests birds for mosquito borne diseases. The State Lab has directed mosquito programs statewide to conduct activities on the assumption that EEE and West Nile are present in each area. Please dispose of any dead birds you find.

7. What can I do to get rid of fire ants?

Unfortunately our office is no longer able to assist you with fire ants. Please consult with your preferred lawn and garden store as they will be able to recommend products you can use.

8. What can I do to get rid of other flying insects such as fleas, yellow flies, black flies, hornets, wasps, etc.?

Please consult your preferred lawn and garden store or an exterminator for these types of pests.

9. What can I do about a problem with bees?

Please contact the local office of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Office at 910-455-5873. Their staff will be able to assist you with this matter.
