ONSLOW COUNTY, NC- Onslow County Vehicle Maintenance now has a sufficient facility to repair County department vehicles. On Monday, June 19, a formal ribbon cutting was held to symbolize the official opening of the new Vehicle Maintenance Facility & Garage. The garage will offer space for Onslow County mechanics to service a variety of vehicles including Onslow County Sheriff’s Office patrol cruisers, Emergency Services ambulances and Solid Waste bulldozers, among others. The facility will also house Environmental Services Mosquito Control.
Construction on the garage began 18 months ago. The new facility is 19,778 square feet. Unlike the last facility, the new garage provides ample space for vehicles to be lifted properly. In the old garage, mechanics struggled to repair larger machines as the ceiling was too low to lift the vehicle high enough for maneuvering repairs. The new garage gives Onslow County the cost-saving measure of repairing its own vehicles as opposed to farming out that services.
The old County garage, located on Onslow Pines Park Road, will now house Onslow County Parks and Recreation vehicles, as the garage is in close proximity to Onslow Pines Park and Parks and Recreation administrative offices.
