ONSLOW COUNTY, NC-- Jacksonville Onslow Economic Development hosted their 2017 Annual Meeting on May 18, 2017 at the Onslow County Government Center. The purpose of the annual meeting is to give a report on the economic development ventures within Onslow County and its municipalities. According to JOED’s website, the organization accomplishes economic development, "through the recruitment of new business and investment, the creation of new jobs and assisting in the retention and expansion of our existing business and industry." JOED Executive Director Sheila Pierce-Knight gave a comprehensive "dashboard report" of the Fiscal Year To Date leads and responses of prospective companies looking to do business in Onslow County.
A major milestone touched on in the meeting is the current construction of the 30,000 sq. ft. industrial shell building in Burton Business & Industrial Park. JOED will use this shell building to attract potential investors into utilizing the space for their business growth.
The guest speak at Thursday’s meeting was Mr. Joe Stewart, Executive Director of NC FreeEnterprise Foundation (NCFEF). Mr. Stewart spoke on the topic of "2016 Election Review, 2018 Election Expectations and the Impact of NC’s Changing Political Landscape."
