ONSLOW COUNTY, NC-- On Saturday, May 13, 2017, Onslow County Solid Waste Landfill will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. The purpose of this event is to encourage all Onslow County residents to bring their household hazardous waste to be disposed of properly. The event runs 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 415 Meadowview Road in Jacksonville, NC.
Materials accepted include: paint, paint removers, stains, aerosol cans, pool chemicals, household cleaners, insecticides, pesticides and fungicides. Materials should be in original containers or labeled correctly. Citizens should load non-leaking containers into their vehicles; Onslow County personnel will unload materials. Regular tipping fees do apply: $49/ton.
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Onslow County Cooperative Extension will be present to collect pesticides free of charge. No gas cylinders will be accepted at the event. If you are bringing pesticide containers larger than five gallons or unlabeled containers, please contact the Cooperative Extension at (910) 455-5873.
During last year’s spring event, Onslow County Solid Waste Landfill managed more than 200 hundred vehicles specifically on-site for the waste collection day. A total of 20,800 pounds (10.4 tons) of household hazardous waste was collected, which amounts to enough material collected to fill a tractor-trailer.
