The Onslow Board of Commissioners will meet in a regular session at 6PM, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in the Commissioners’ Chambers at the Onslow County Government Center, 234 NW Corridor Blvd, Jacksonville, NC. The meeting is being held on a Wednesday because Monday, the normal meeting day, is a federal holiday.
The board is to hear a presentation from the Jacksonville-Onslow Economic Development and consider general items such as an easement for Piedmont Natural Gas to cross a County Convenience site on Ramsey Road. Other general items include a contract amendment for technical assistance services from the NC Department of Agriculture for the County Soil and Water Conservation program.
A digital program to replace the paper-based system for the County’s Child Welfare and Adult Services programs is before the Commission for approval. With funds from American Rescue Plan Act programs, the $230,791 program will be paid for five years from this fund.
Funding from that program will also help construct a $7.5 million Senior Services building. A project ordinance to enable the construction will be before the Commissioners. Also, the Commissioners will consider a proposal from Smith Sinnett Architecture for the design and administration of the construction of the project. Smith Sinnett will also be proposed for the design and construction administration for the renovation and expansion of the Onslow County Emergency Operation Center.
Commissioners will also consider a $17,500 grant and agreement to fund a full-scale exercise that will involve many state agencies, the Onslow Emergency Services and first responders and others to practice citizen rescue from area waterways.
A panhandling ordinance is also before the Commissioners. The ordinance will address safety concerns for persons who panhandle within public right of ways in the unincorporated areas of the County.
