[ARCHIVED] Onslow County Government Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Hours

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC— Onslow County Government offices and services will have modified hours in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Most offices will be closed Monday, January 16, 2017.  Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, January 17.

  • Albert J. Ellis Airport will operate on schedules as set by the airlines. Administrative offices will be closed.
  • E911 and Emergency Medical Services will be available.  Administrative offices will be closed.
  • Onslow County Animal Services will be closed. Animal control officers will continue to respond to emergency calls.
  • Onslow County Landfill and its convenience sites will be closed on the holiday.
  • Onslow County Parks and Recreation administrative offices will be closed. All parks will remain open throughout the holiday weekend.

While most offices, are closed on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day, several Onslow County Government departments are hosting events during the holiday weekend:

Onslow County Parks and Recreation will be hosting ‘Snowfest’ on Saturday, January 14 from 1 p.m. – 5p.m. at Onslow Pines Park. The event will feature downhill sledding for $5.00 as well as amusement rides and vendors.

  • Onslow County Museum will be hosting a book-signing with former Museum Collections Manager Patricia M. Hughey. Ms. Hughey penned ‘Onslow County, North Carolina,’ a recent edition to the ‘Images of America’ series. Ms. Hughey will be available Saturday, January 14 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. to sign copies of the book.  
  • Onslow County Animal Services will be hosting an Adoption Event on Saturday, January 14 from 10 a.m.– 2p.m. at the Jacksonville PetSmart on Yopp Rd.  Adoption fees are $105 for dogs and $75 for cats.
  • Onslow County Public Library (Main Branch-Jacksonville) will be hosting a Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Children may drop off their favorite stuffed animal at the library between 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, January 13.
