Records Requests
Duplicate Copy Requirements
Effective December 1, 2020, we will no longer be issuing certificates in person until further notice.
For birth, death and marriage certificates by mail, you must send a request with the name or names involved (including mother's maiden name for birth), date of birth, death or marriage and the number of certificates you are requesting.
Send this request, along with $10 for each certificate requested, to:

Payment must be by cash, or money order. We are not able to accept any checks through the mail. If you send a check, your request will be rejected and mailed back to you. Please make money order payable to Register of Deeds.
Please include a copy of your valid photo ID and a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request.
A valid photo ID includes a Driver's License or state ID issued by a state or territory of the United States, a US military ID, or a passport
To order a death, marriage or birth certificate, please click here.
We are not able to provide birth certificates of people who were adopted or people who were born outside of Onslow County.
We are not able to provide death certificates of people who died outside of Onslow County.
We DO NOT email or fax any vital records.
Military Discharges
Military discharges are only in our office if you personally brought them in and registered the discharges. You must present a photo ID. There is no charge for the certified copies.
The following people can request a DD214:
- By veteran or veteran's widow/widower (present death certificate)
- By a court representing veteran (present court order)
- By veteran's executor acting on behalf of deceased veteran (present Letter of Testamentary)

Requests in the mail must be accompanied by a photocopy of a picture ID, a self addressed stamped envelope and $10 cash or money order.
