The Driving While Impaired Task Force is a unit of elite and specially trained deputies who are tasked with combating the problem of impaired driving. The DWI Task Force was founded in 2018 through a grant and partnership with the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program. The DWI Task Force uses data driven by impaired driving crashes and uses high visibility engagement to investigate incidents of impaired driving. Since its inception, the DWI Task Force has made over 1000 impaired driving arrests and conducted over 200 community engagement events. Onslow County has seen nearly a 25% decrease in impaired driving crashes and fatalities since 2018.
